In bhagavad gita chapter 2 verse 47 Lord Krishna emphasizes on Arjuna need for indulgence in karma. As ordained by God Almighty… no Jiva (a soul manifesting physical form) could sustain in absence of karma. The process of karma was inbuilt and so was our indulgence! Desire or no desire… we could never abstain self from indulgence in karma, no matter what!
Lord Krishna advises Arjuna to indulge in karma as a duty and not as a right, outcome of which was left to our choosing! Performance of karma would always result in bondage. But if we indulged in karma nishkama karma way… then fruits of karma performed were not binding! Lord Krishna advises Arjuna indulging in nishkama karma yoga, offering fruits of karma performed to God Almighty all the time!
Lord Srikrishna further advises Arjuna not to dissuade from indulgence for fear of bondage, sinning! Those indulging in nishkama karma yoga never incurred any sin as fruits of karma performed all the time belonged to God Almighty. When we indulged in karma as a duty unmindful of results, no sin was incurred. If Arjuna refuses to fight his enemy in battlefield of Mahabharata, then such action would definitely merit sin! Thinking we were not the doer, Arjuna must indulge in ones part of karma.
Geeta chapter 2 verse 47 makes it apparently clear that our soul atman, the spirit within was the absolute master and controller of human life on mother earth. Whatever karma was indulged by physical manifest form, fruits of karma performed always belonged to our true inner self… our soul atman, the spirit within residing in our heart! Through Bhagavad Gita 2 47 Lord Krishna highlights ephemerality of human life! The human form, the physical manifest body was only a medium for our soul atman, the spirit within to cleanse self of dross impurities within! The prime purpose of every soul atman manifesting a body was indulgence in karma. The act of karma was rooted in our psyche, something inherent within us.
Through Bhagavad Gita chapter 2 verse 47 Srikrishna confirms to Arjuna that he was not a physical being manifesting consciousness. He was rather a spiritual being… a spirit, manifesting human form. For any karma indulged by human form… fruits of karma performed always belonged to our true inner self… our soul atman, the spirit within! In this cosmic game of life, the role of physical manifest self was limited. As no soul atman could purify self of its own… it needs a medium, a body to work out its karma! Lord Krishna advises Arjuna to indulge in karma as his prime duty. Thoughts of non-indulgence in karma were meaningless. Even when idling, one indulged in karma through mental process!
Every single thought precipitated into an act of karma. Every second thousands of thoughts flowed to our brain incessantly. This flow of thoughts was uncontrollable. Only by indulgence in karma nishkama karma way… we could control this flow of incessant thoughts! Moment human beings reached stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (absolute nothingness)… it announced total ceasing of flow of thoughts to our brain. In the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi… not a single thought entered our brain uninvoked! This is the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) when our karma finally negated to zero. Through geeta chapter 2 verse 47 Lord Krishna makes it abundantly clear that to reach god, indulgence in nishkama karma yoga was the only way out! A true seeker of spirituality could never deny existence of spirit, soul within us!
Allegorically Lord Krishna exists in our heart as our soul atman, the spirit within! It all the time prompts from within to indulge in karma… nishkama karma way! Acting as a true trustee of God Almighty… a true seeker of spirituality finally reached stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (stage of absolute nothingness) when not a single thought flowed to our brain uninvoked. As human beings, it was our duty to assist our soul atman, the spirit within to reach cosmic end of life! Every soul atman reached cosmic end of life the moment it gained absolute purity. The stage of absolute purity by a soul atman, the spirit within can only be achieved by negating karma to zero forever. According to this logistics… indulgence in karma nishkama karma way was ordained, mandated by God Almighty for every true traveler of spiritual path!
For sustenance of spiritual life, for sustenance of our soul atman, the spirit within… indulgence in nishkama karma yoga by human form was an absolute must! If we truly desire reaching god in present life… we must all travel path of nishkama karma yoga, offering fruits of karma performed to God Almighty all the time! Fear of sinning does not exist in a true seeker of spirituality. For a true traveler of spiritual path… every happening in cosmic domain was ordained by god. Why interfere and mar our present and future. Doing bidding of our soul atman, the spirit within all the time results in expeditious spiritual journey! The essence of teachings of Bhagavad Gita by Sri Krishna to Arjuna was to make him realize that he was not a physical being and should not be afraid of sinning all the time.
As souls atmans were God Almighty existing in our heart in miniscule form… we had nothing to fear!
