Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2 Verse 16

नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सतः ।
उभयोरपि दृष्टोऽन्तस्त्वनयोस्तत्त्वदर्शिभिः ॥२-१६॥

nasato vidyate bhavo na bhavo vidyate satah
ubhayor api dristoantas tva anayos tattvadarshibhi ॥ 2-16 ॥

Lord Krishna addresses, O Arjuna: that which is perishable, non-perennial… does not have a permanent existence in cosmic affairs of life. The materialistic world was perishable… ever-changing! Its significance in cosmic world was temporal… ethereal! With passage of time… it changes form. The manifest world of human beings was subject to change. Everything material was temporary, unable to withstand rigors of time! They ultimately perish in the end.

One strike by a comet, meteor… life on mother earth would come to naught! The possibility of mother earth itself disintegrating exists. Everything perceivable by senses was temporary… ephemeral! Something that was beyond capture of senses and mind was permanent… long-lasting forever! By dwelling in world of senses and sense objects… one never reached true inner self… our soul atman, the spirit within! Lord Krishna advises Arjuna to abandon his attachment to all that was ephemeral… feelings of Moha, five senses and mind!

Lord Krishna also tells Arjuna… that which was perennial, ever existing never perished with time! Our soul atman, the spirit within never dies. It was existent in all stages of life. Furthermore something that was perennial exists everywhere. Our scriptures say… God is everywhere! This confirms the omnipresent stature of god. Truly, souls’ atmans exist in every corner of cosmos! The authority of souls’ atmans was indisputable, unchallengeable in the world of human beings. As per Krishna… souls’ atmans were the only truth of life. Rest all was ephemeral.

As per Krishna in every living form exists… a soul atman, the spirit within! In simple words it can rightly be said, the existence of souls’ atmans in every part of cosmos was an absolute fact of life. Souls’ atmans also stand for absolute truth. For truth to exist, the material world was not necessitated. But for material world to exist… existence of souls’ atmans was a necessity! Krishna further says… souls atmans were eternal, existing from beginning of time! Even though the manifest form changed with time… but our soul atman, the spirit within did not!

As per Krishna… why cling to something that was ephemeral! Death of human body on mother earth does not announce death of soul atman, the spirit within! Krishna advises Arjuna to perceive this delusion to understand abstract realities of life. As per Krishna Sat stood for the abstract world of souls atmans and Asat for the manifest world. One who realized this reality was a Tattva Jnani (knower of absolute truth). By exercising power of discrimination, every human being on mother earth could become a Tattva Jnani, realizing forever underlying truth of life.

The Explanation

In Bhagavad Gita chapter 2 verse 16 Krishna emphasizes on Arjuna to peep within. As everything stated in Bhagavad Gita were an allegory to deeper spiritual meaning of life… Krishna tells Arjuna that apart from God almighty… nothing exists in cosmos! Everything belongs to God… everything emanates from God and at the time of Pralaya (dissolution of entire cosmos) everything gets absorbed back into God.

When god alone was the only truth of life… everything external has to be manifest! In every corner of cosmos, in every part of cosmos exists… God Almighty in miniscule form as our soul atman, the spirit within. Ever since occurrence of big bang when God Almighty (Brahman in Hinduism) exploded self… all pure souls’ atmans scattered all over cosmos at unimaginable speeds. In the melee, all pure souls’ atmans gathered impurities!

To cleanse self of dross impurities within starts cosmic life cycle of every soul atman. This becomes possible when life supporting planets like mother earth evolved in cosmic system. Before manifesting self existed… God Almighty in all its glory. After manifestation… grew entire cosmos! The manifest cosmos as we see was temporal, ephemeral… short lived! At any given point of time… it was only the world of souls’ atmans that was governing.

Souls’ atmans existing in every part of cosmos proves that there was no shortage of Sat (truth). Here Sat stood for dominion of God Almighty that exists in every part of cosmos. In every chapter of life, in every principle of life underlay dominion of god. Behind every manifestation lay the unmanifest god. In absence of dominion of God Almighty, the external world simply could not exist! Existence of Asat (manifest world) was directly based on Sat (unmanifest world of god).

Asat (the manifest world) had no independent identity of its own. If we human beings exist, if life exists on mother earth, all owed its existence to presence of souls atmans within every living being. For a seeker, for a traveler of spiritual path… the world of souls’ atmans was the only truth of life. This world of souls’ atmans could only be reached via path of absolute truthfulness, never otherwise! If we wanted to reach our true inner self… our soul atman, the spirit within we had to be absolutely truthful in life.

Only then human beings could hear the sweet small inner voice of their soul atman that seemed to come from within the heart. Prompted by dictates of my soul atman (Lord Krishna that existed within me in my heart as my soul atman, the spirit within) I finally reached god at 37 years of age in the wee hours of third of Aug 1993. This is my last manifestation on mother earth… 8.4 millionth manifestation. Moment I leave my mortal frame; I shall but attain moksha salvation forever! For a serious seeker of spirituality, Lord Krishna stood right in our heart all the time!

In our spiritual journey of life… the moment we recognized ephemerality of our physical manifest self… everything else became clear by itself! By overpowering five senses and mind, by travelling path of absolute truthfulness always and ever moment we recognized, rather reached our true inner self… our soul atman, the spirit within the journey of spirituality immediately ends! For a serious seeker of spirituality reaching stage of Tattva jnani was not that difficult. By exercising power of discrimination at every stage of life we can achieve… the unachievable!

Power of truth helps us discriminate truth from false, right from wrong! It is through this path we climb the ladder of contemplation. Unless we indulged in self enquiry (path of Neti… not this, not this) we could never recognize existence of soul atman within our heart. Primarily we all were a spiritual being manifesting a human body. It is not within the capability of human body (the manifest itself)… to manifest a soul atman! At all stages of life… our soul atman, the spirit within (the real truth of life) was all the time governing.

When death of body occurred… it was our soul atman, the spirit within that moved ahead in its cosmic journey! After death of human body… our soul atman, the spirit within manifested a new body based on residual balance of karma at the time of death of body. As per Lord Krishna… essence of life existing within us in our heart was not difficult to recognize. We had to practice truthfulness in all walks of life to overpower five senses and mind to reach god, reach our true inner self… our soul atman, the spirit within!
